Deutsche Rück invests in health app YAS

Deutsche Rückversicherung AG has taken a stake of around EUR 1.5 million as lead investor in start-up YAS. The Berlin-based founder team has launched an app that motivates users to pursue sporting activities and a healthy lifestyle. YAS uses digital incentives and gamification for this purpose. The investment is earmarked for developing a premium version of the YAS app for the B2B segment.

Michael Rohde, management board member of Deutsche Rück, sees great opportunities for the growth of YAS: "The team headed by founder Dr. Magnus Kobel thinks prevention in a completely digital and systematic way from the customer's viewpoint. As a reinsurer providing strong support for its customers in product development, we see a lot of potential in YAS for innovative insurance products and services. For this reason, we are investing in two different ways: we are making a financial commitment and, in parallel, supporting YAS through our actuarial and medical expertise." In addition to Deutsche Rück, investors from the previous round of financing also took part in this round, including Franke and Bornberg. The total amount of financing is almost EUR 2 million.

About YAS
In 2016, Dr Magnus Kobel established MAGNUM EST Digital Health GmbH with the vision of making holistic health and prevention accessible through simple digital solutions, thus motivating people to pursue a healthy everyday lifestyle. At the end of 2016 the health app YAS was launched to incentivise users to lead health-conscious lives. The YAS team is now preparing a range of projects with insurance companies and health funds for 2018.
