Deutsche Rück enters Middle Eastern markets – Tarik Aouad joins German reinsurer

Deutsche Rückversicherung will start writing business in the Middle East. The reinsurer has appointed Tarik Aouad as Head of Middle Eastern Markets, reporting to Board member Achim Bosch and based in Düsseldorf, Germany. The newly created market segment will focus on traditional property and casualty reinsurance business.

Stable premiums and strengthened assets

The Deutsche Rück Group began 2020 on a stronger footing, having once again significantly increased its security. While premiums declined as expected in residual credit business and in engineering insurance, the Group recorded positive growth in life insurance business and the property lines. Read more

Business goes on despite coronavirus pandemic

The worldwide spread of coronavirus is currently having a major impact on the economy and public life. Deutsche Rück supports the measures adopted by politicians and authorities to slow the spread of infection. Since 12 March, all employees at the Düsseldorf headquarters and many at the Zurich office have been using mobile resources to work from home. Deutsche Rück has not recorded any noticeable impact on its business operations. Read more

Standard & Poor’s confirms “A+” rating for Deutsche Rück – “stable” outlook

The rating agency Standard & Poor's has confirmed its “A+” rating with a “stable” outlook for the Deutsche Rückversicherung Group. The rating encompasses both Deutsche Rückversicherung AG in Düsseldorf and Deutsche Rückversicherung Switzerland Ltd (DR Swiss) in Zurich. S & P reports that Deutsche Rück has a sustainable and very strong capital base coupled with a secure earnings position and supported by risk-adequate underwriting and a conservative strategy for the recognition of reserves. The Deutsche Rückversicherung Group and VöV Rückversicherung KöR joined the investor initiative “PRI” (Principles for Responsible Investment). By signing this agreement, they are making a commitment to focusing on sustainable investment and to taking ecological, social and ethical criteria into account when they make their investment decisions.

Deutsche Rück maps out the future of life insurance: a look back at!® day

Deutsche Rück, jointly with startup incubator STARTPLATZ and its partners ECODYNAMICS and Protostart, held a!® day on 6 June 2018. Under the motto “Disrupt.Life Insurance!”, start-ups, people interested in founding a business, and students had the opportunity to engage with one of the main sectors of the insurance industry during the event, which took place over one day as part of InsurTech Week in Cologne. The winning team now has the chance to develop its “CashBackLife” concept within the framework of a three-month accelerator programme. Read more

The InsurTech hub, which was launched in Cologne, aims to promote the digital transformation in the insurance industry by connecting InsurTech start-ups and established players in the industry. The network encompasses around 45 representatives of the insurance sector, including insurers, start-ups, service providers, the Technical University of Cologne and the University of Cologne.

Deutsche Rück invests in health app YAS

Deutsche Rückversicherung AG has taken a stake of around EUR 1.5 million as lead investor in start-up YAS. The Berlin-based founder team has launched an app that motivates users to pursue sporting activities and a healthy lifestyle. YAS uses digital incentives and gamification for this purpose. The investment is earmarked for developing a premium version of the YAS app for the B2B segment.
